Political Correctness at its finest (worst)

This past Saturday we spent a wonderful day in the Woodlands. We did some Christmas shopping and then went over to the new area called Town Center that is just the neatest little patch of shops you've ever seen. As usual, I forgot to bring my camera, and after dining at Johnny Rocket's we learned that the 50' Christmas tree was going to be lit at 7:00pm. So we decide to stick around to see what else was going on.

There was a dancing/singing troupe performing all sorts of Christmas Carols and one song from Rent (don't ask me why.) There was a brass quartet called Festive Brass whose lead trumpet player played with Frank Sinatra...they played great reneditions of many classic Chrismas Songs including a Jingle Bells that was very much like the arrangement playing behind Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby (oh have a lotta fun). And there was a big choir singing carols as well.

Well, I wanted to say how much fun we had partaking of all of those festivities and since I had no camera, I thought I'd find the Woodlands website and surely they'd have pictures of this event. Much to my surprise, I see that their opening page for the "Holidays" says, "The Twelve Days of the Holiday Season."

What?

The last I heard, the song is called the Twelve Days of Christmas. I laughed to Kim and said, "On the first day of the Holiday Season my true love gave to me..." and then I clicked on their link and, no kidding, that is exactly what they've put on the site. I shouldn't be surprised, but I am. This kind of thing really makes me mad.

I should have known. Between performances at the tree lighting event the Emcee said, "Don't go away, we've got lot's more things coming up. We have a brass band and then we're going to light the tree. We have this beautiful holiday tree, uh, Christmas tree that we are going to light...

Someone else said it best: The more money people make during Christmas, the more they are ashamed at the real reason for the season. Posted by Picasa

S.P.D. Emergency!

No, it's not a new virus going around, it is the battle cry of the Power Rangers, S.P.D. Unit (Space Patrol Delta) and it is the obsession of the moment for both Evan and Elliot.

Anakin who? Darth who? I'm telling you, right now it is reaching bold proportions. After my birthday (Nov. 8) Evan told me how he wanted his birthday cake (March 31!): "Two blue lightsabers crossing the cake like Anakin and Obi Wan fighting." Now, the cake and birthday party theme has to be Power Rangers!

We'll see how long this fad lasts. Posted by Picasa

The picture

With each boy we've taken "the picture." We dress them in this one outfit and put them in the bouncy seat and try to get them to pose the same way. Posted by Picasa

Splish Splash...

Riddle me this:
Can you tell who's who?
Which one is Elliot...which one is Drew?? Posted by Picasa

Happy Half Birthday Drew!!!

Posted by Picasa We continue the tradition of the "Half Birthday" Party for our kids. Each child gets a special birthday party on the day he turns 6 months old.

With Evan, we went all out. Had a cake, lots of presents and Nana, Grandma, and Nanou were all there.

With Elliot, it was just us four, but we had a nice cake with candles that spelled out "Happy Birthday" and he got a Tigger toy as a gift.

With Drew, we had a homemade cookie cake and a party hat! Nanou did come over to visit, so there were 6 people present tying Evan for most in the "Half Birthday" attendance record!

Evan is a little Confederate Soldier.

Evan and Elliot imagine what it would be like on the wagon trail. Notice Evan's pouch? In that pouch he put some medicine and a pacifier for Drew. He also had a water bottle in it. He said he was bringing all that to take care of his baby brother! How sweet!

Pioneer Days

We went to Pioneer Days today at Jesse Jones Park off of FM1960 in Humble. It is where people dress up like the old pioneer days and exhibit what it was like to live back then. They had a petting zoo with the Three Billy Goats Gruff, a "hook 'em" that you could sit on and pet, a donkey to pet, a covered wagon that you got to sit in and dress like a pioneer, and lots of other things. They have an authentic pioneer villiage, complete with a house, barn, chicken coop, blacksmith, smokehouse and woodworking shop.

The people showed us how to make soap, weave on a loom and cut shingles from cottonwood trees. Hey, this information would have come in handy after hurricane Rita!! Posted by Picasa

Drew's Big Milestone...

Drew cut his first tooth on Wednesday, November 2, 2005!

He's been being able to roll over from is back to his belly, but now he can roll over from his belly to his back. This morning, he was doing his very best "steamroller" impression!! Posted by Picasa
